Falls are the seventh leading cause of death among older adults, but many are preventable with proper therapy. Balance problems can significantly impact posture, stability, and confidence, often leading to falls if left untreated. Our physical therapists help individuals of all ages improve their balance by assessing movement patterns and designing personalized programs to build strength, stability, and coordination—restoring safety and independence in daily life.

Examples of physical conditions that lead to poor balance include:

  • Neuropathy or lack of sensation
  • Poor endurance
  • Poor strength
  • Poor flexibility

Often misdiagnosed, vertigo can frequently be resolved in just a few therapy sessions. Caused by inner ear disorders, vertigo is effectively treated through vestibular rehabilitation, a specialized form of physical therapy that restores balance, corrects inner ear signal disruptions, and sharpens visual focus. Each treatment plan is tailored to the individual, with targeted exercises that not only reduce dizziness but also support overall strength and wellness.

Conditions that may be helped with Vestibular Rehabilitation:

  • BPPV – Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo
  • Post-Concussion Syndrome
  • Vestibular Neuritis
  • Dizziness
  • Motion sensitivity

Participants receive support from AIR desk staff 2 times per week with an exercise program established by a physical therapist. Assistance generally includes assistance with equipment. The desk staff are not physical therapy or exercise professionals. Ideally the Wellness Member is assisted with a routine until they are confident and capable of continuing their exercise routine independently. AIR Wellness is an ideal starting point for those that need help familiarizing themselves with and on to/off of equipment and seek a safe, motivating path toward better health and long-term fitness. All Wellness participants must start with evaluation by a physical therapist and are transitioned to a desk staff member (not a physical therapy professional) to assist the Wellness Member as needed.– The Wellness Program is not considered physical therapy or billed to insurance company. This is a self pay program and is not covered by any insurance based Fitness products.

Infrared light therapy has been shown to be effective in relieving the constant, unrelenting, sleep depriving burning pain that often accompanies peripheral neuropathy. Anodyne Therapy is a non-invasive, drug-free treatment that uses infrared light to relieve the burning, tingling, and aching pain caused by peripheral neuropathy—a condition resulting from nerve damage often linked to diabetes, poor circulation, medications, chemotherapy, or alcohol use. Traditional pain medications may offer only temporary relief and can lead to long-term complications, whereas Anodyne Therapy targets the root cause by stimulating nitric oxide production to dilate blood vessels, improve circulation, and promote natural nerve healing.

During treatment, infrared light penetrates about 5 cm beneath the skin to increase blood flow and repair damaged tissue, helping to reduce pain and restore function. Patients typically receive therapy three times per week for 30–45 minutes, depending on the severity of their condition. When combined with traditional physical therapy, Anodyne Therapy has been shown to enhance circulation and significantly lessen or eliminate neuropathy symptoms. Aquatic therapy aims to promote muscle relaxation, improve joint mobility, and reduce pain through the buoyancy and warmth of water. AIR Physical Therapy’s New Castle facility features a 20’ x 20’ heated pool with depths of 3, 4, and 6 feet, along with a stairway and handrail for safe, easy entry. The warm water, maintained at 90 degrees Fahrenheit, lessens the effects of gravity, easing pressure on joints and muscles and allowing for more comfortable movement. This environment is especially beneficial for individuals recovering from hip, knee, ankle, shoulder, or back surgeries, as it supports gentle, low-impact exercise that enhances healing and mobility.

Goals of aquatic therapy include:

  • Muscle relaxation
  • Improved joint motion
  • Pain reduction

AIR Pre-Operative Therapy Conditioning is a short-term physical therapy program designed to strengthen your body before surgery, improving recovery speed and reducing post-surgical complications. Appropriate for patients of any age undergoing hip, knee, or other specific surgeries, the program is tailored to your physical and medical condition and includes supervised exercises, home activities, and guidance on pain management, mobility aids, and realistic recovery expectations. Beginning weeks before surgery, your therapist will introduce exercises, adjust for pain or mobility concerns, and prepare you for post-operative rehabilitation, helping ensure a safer, faster, and more successful recovery.

We can also help prepare you for what to expect in the days and weeks following your surgery, including:

  • Training on how to use a walker, wheelchair or crutches.
  • Preparation for your anticipated post-operative rehabilitation.
  • Techniques for effective pain management.
  • Realistic recovery expectations and precautions specific to your surgical procedure.

Both pre-operative conditioning and post-operative rehabilitation therapies are covered by most major insurance policies because research has shown that these programs can help reduce complications and shorten recovery times.

Your therapist will work closely with you to address your specific concerns and guide your recovery, and you will receive instructions on how to prepare for your first appointment.

  • Pain in the pelvis, hips, or lower back
  • Endometriosis

LSVT BIG trains people with Parkinson disease (PD) to use their body more normally. People living with PD or other neurological conditions often move differently, with gestures and actions that become smaller and slower. They may have trouble with getting around, getting dressed and with other activities of daily living. LSVT BIG effectively trains improved movements for any activity, whether “small motor” tasks like buttoning a shirt or “large motor” tasks like getting up from sofa or chair or maintaining balance while walking. The treatment improves walking, self-care and other tasks by helping people “recalibrate” how they perceive their movements with what others actually see. It also teaches them how and when to apply extra effort to produce bigger motions – more like the movements of everyone around them.
